Robin Hood is perhaps one of the most iconic and popular men ever to appear in English folklore. His popularity and iconic status are more unusual than that of other popular historical figures as he is, if the stories are to believed an outlaw and a thief. His popularity is perhaps even more surprising when you consider noone knows the truth of who he really was.
However he has become a symbol of good, a symbol of an ordinary man taking a stand against opression, a symbol of an ordinary man providing for those most in need in society in his own vigilante way.
Tales of Robin Hood can be found in writing as far back as 1377, the stories all vary, some traceable characters such as Little John and Will Scarlett feature in many, they have known burial sites.
One thing that reamains consistent across the majority of the tales is the place of Robin's death. Robin is said to have died at Kirklees priory, sending for Little John shortly before his passing he asked for his bow. He is said to have let losose one arrow and where that arrow landed he asked to be buried.
The Yew in this ring is from the trees by the grave at Kirklees priory, where his arrow is said to have landed. As early as the 1530's text can be found detailing Robin Hood as being buried near to Kirklees Priory.
The grave site is largely symbolic, it is uncertain if anyone is buried there at all, it is part of the myth and legend of Robin Hood.
The stone once translated into modern English reads -
"Here underneath this little stone, Lies Robert Earl of Huntingdon, Never archer was as he so good, And people called him Robin Hood, Such outlaws as he and his men, Will England never see again"
The ring will come with its own certificate of authenticity.
